OPIC Seeks Proposals for 'Impact Investments'

The Overseas Private Investment Corp., the U.S. government’s development finance institution, issued March 31 its first-ever call for proposals for “impact investments.”

Impact investments refer to profit-generating activities that help to deliver social and environmental impacts in emerging markets, according to OPIC.

Fund managers and other financial intermediaries may submit proposals to “establish investment funds designed to create a portfolio of social and environmental impact investments in the emerging markets where OPIC operates,” a statement of the corporation reads.

Some $250 million has been earmarked for the intiative.

Proposals of equity, debt and hybrid strategies may be submitted until May 12.
