Organizations team up to fight polio in Sudan

The World Health Organization, the United Nations Children’s Fund and the Sudanese Ministry of Health are working together to organize a series of vaccinations against polio for Sudanese children. The vaccinations are expected to reach 8 million Sudanese children, after the first case of the disease was reported since August 2005. Outbreaks of the virus continue to be reported despite efforts of the global community to eradicate polio by 2000. (Source: Sudan polio campaign targets 8 million children/Reuters)
