Overshadowed by Haiti Response? UN Appeals for Pakistan Aid

The United Nations is seeking USD538 million to help thousands of internally displaced people in Pakistan over the next six months, Associated Press reports. Approximately USD195 million of this appeal will be spent on food aid for the displaced population. The U.S. ambassador to Pakistan pledged generous response to the appeal.

However, U.N. official Manuel Bessler noted that the Haiti earthquake is currently the priority of the international community.

“We are afraid it will affect donor response for Pakistan,” he added.
