Pakistan: IMF to Release Next Loan Tranche in May

The International Monetary Fund has guaranteed it will approve the disbursement of the fifth installment of its emergency loan for Pakistan during its May 3 board meeting, the Pakistani prime minister’s office said. The next installment of the USD11.3 billion loan is expected to amount to USD1.2 billion, Reuters reports. Pakistan missed the April 1 deadline for an in increase in electricity tariffs, which was stipulated under the IMF program, prompting a delay in the approval of the tranche.
