Palestinian Prime Minister Salam Fayyad recently concluded a visit to Japan, where he met with Japanese Prime Minister Naoto Kan, among other government officials. In their meeting, Kan expressed Japan’s support for a two-state solution to the conflict between Israel and the Palestinian territories and urged for the resumption of direct peace talks. Kan also pledged that Japan will continue to support the Palestinian Authority’s state-building initiatives. Japan will provide some USD100 million toward these initiatives within the fiscal year, Kan said, according to the Japanese foreign ministry office.
