Elizabeth Tromans’ years of being a swimmer and diver culminated in a lifesaving moment in India last month.
While working as part of a Catholic Relief Services team delivering relief supplies to flood-hit villages in northern India, Tromans rescued a woman from the flood waters.
“I ran over and saw her hand sticking up out of the water. I jumped in. I grabbed her. I wasn’t touching bottom. I was floating on my back, kicking, and my arms were under her armpits. The current was taking us forward, but I was taking us to the side,” Tromans was quoted by William Lambers of Global Hunger Examiner as saying.
Tromans and CRS continue to provide aid in the flood-ravaged area of India, according to Lambers.
