Peru inaugurated the first liquefied natural gas or LNG plant in South America on June 11, making it as the 18th country in the world to build a natural gas liquification plant. The Melchorita plant in Cañete is owned by Peru LNG, a consortium that invested USD3.8 billion in the project. The project was funded by the Inter American Development Bank, World Bank, U.S. Export-Import Bank, and the Export-Import Bank of Korea.
