Red Cross Raises Funding Appeal for Niger, Mali

The International Committee of the Red Cross increased its funding appeal for famine-affected people in Niger and Mali to 36 million Swiss francs (USD33.9 million), up significantly from its original appeal for 13 million Swiss francs (USD21.1 million), the African Press Agency reports. The money, according to the ICRC, would be used to help approximately 7.8 million people in Niger and 250, 000 people in northern Mali who are threatened by hunger because of poor crop production in the past months.
