Serbia hopes that the European Council will approve its bid for membership in the European Union, according to Bozidar Djelic, Serbia’s deputy prime minister for European integration and minister of science and technological development. The council will meet on Oct. 25 to decide whether to forward Serbia’s candidacy to the European Commission.

Serbia is also eyeing maximum support from the World Bank and International Monetary Fund, reports. The country is seeking some USD900 million in assistance from the bank for the 2011-2014 period. But it has yet to decide on its stance regarding cooperation with IMF beyond April 2011, Djelic said.
