World Vision International was the biggest employer in Somalia last year, according to research conducted by Somaliland Research Center. World Vision has moved “some its few major operations” from Somalia to Somaliland due to security concerns in Somalia, Christ Smooth, head of World Vision operation in Somali and Somaliland, said. He added that the organization currently employs 160 locals out of its 170 personnel in Somaliland, Somalilandpress reports.

Camps for Somali refugees and internally displaced people in Ethiopia, Djibouti, Kenya and Somalia are increasingly getting overcrowded and under-resourced. More armed conflict looms, and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees is organizing contingency arrangements and a fundraising appeal for Somalis displaced by violence.
