South Korea will be handing over at least $7.5 million in emergency aid supplies to North Korea, which suffered massive damages from floods that swept through the country. Instant food, water, medicine, and other supplies will be sent across North Korea’s militarized border from August 23-25. “We have offered to transport the emergency supplies by land to make the handover swift,” said South Korea’s Unification Ministry. The recent flooding, reportedly the worst in North Korea’s history, has taken the lives of at least 221 people, rendered more than 300,000 residents homeless, and destroyed infrastructure and roughly 11 per cent of the region’s rice paddies.
