Sri Lanka seeks firm commitments on tsunami aid

Sri Lanka is hoping tsunami aid pledges will turn into firm commitments. ?We have already lined up donor commitments for a pipeline of infrastructure projects. We hope to convert some of these commitments into firm pledges,” treasury chief Punchi Banda Jayasundera stated. Donors have voiced concern over allegations of rampant corruption in spending aid. “A bigger government (cabinet of ministers) and the military taking a hardline stand could overshadow the development agenda,” said a Western diplomat, who is attending a meeting of donor nations and lenders in the southern city of Galle.
