Sweden funds power initiative in Mekong



    The Swedish government has extended USD5 million to support a power trade program of the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) states. The money will be disbursed through the Asian Development Bank in line with an agreement struck between Sweden and the bank, and will help the GMS countries secure technical expertise for the development of environment-friendly electrical infrastructures. The GMS countries, which include China, Myanmar, Laos, Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam, are spread out over a land area of almost 2.3 million square kilometers, and is home to over 250 million people.
