Tajik Power Sector Gets ADB Backing

The Asian Development Bank will release USD54.77 million to upgrade Tajikistan’s Nurek Hydroelectric Power Plant. The grant will help install new switchgear in the plant’s 500-kilovolt switchyard. “The project will ensure a sustainable and reliable electricity supply to support economic development,” ADB Principal Energy Specialist Jim Liston said. “It will also mitigate the risk of natural disasters disabling the switchyard and will stabilize the flow of electricity coming from this strategically important power plant.” (“ADB to Help Improve Tajikistan’s Power Supply” - Asian Development Bank, Nov. 19, 2008)
