Tunisian Foreign Minister Ahmed Ounaiss has stepped down following a row over the compliments he gave to his French counterpart, Michele Alliot-Marie, state-run Tunisian TAP news agency reports.

Alliot-Marie is being accused of being too close to the ousted regime of former Tunisian President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali. No replacement for Ounaiss has been named, according to Reuters.

The resignation is seen to negatively impact Tunsia’s new coalition government, which assumed power after Ali’s ouster in January. Several ministers of the coalition government had already resigned or been sacked.
