UK Expands Its Demining Scheme

The British government will extend its demining program to three more years to continue reducing land mine and cluster munition deaths in the developing world, U.K. International Development Secretary Douglas Alexander revealed. The U.K. has committed some GBP30 million (USD46.2 million) from 2010 to 2013 to the initiative. “Over the next three years, we will aim to reduce the impact of anti-personnel mines in developing countries through support to well established and effective de-mining organisations,” Alexander said in a statement.
