In a new white paper, Britain announced its plan to create a GBP100 million ($184 million) fund to fight graft in developing nations. “Long-term progress in the fight against poverty will only be achieved through effective governance and by people with the voice and confidence to hold their government to account,” international development secretary Hilary Benn said. The Governance Transparency Fund aims to boost accountability through media and trade unions. The initiative also calls for periodic transparency assessments and the preparation of an action plan to address international corruption.
