The World Trade Organization (WTO) approved the accession terms of Ukraine on Feb. 5, paving the way for the country’s full membership. Ukraine’s legislative body is set to ratify the agreement by July 4, and the country will become a full-fledged WTO member 30 days after the ratification. Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko cited expert studies that said WTO entry could mean a 10 percent jump in Ukrainian consumption and an additional 1.7 percent boost to the country’s already impressive growth rate, which was around 7.3 percent last year.
