UN agency expresses optimism over Palestinian funds

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East reported a faster pace in donor response this year. “We are running slightly ahead of last year’s emergency appeal for the occupied Palestinian territories, in large part due to an increase in Arab donations, particularly for Gaza,” declared UNRWA official Peter Ford. “The contributions would help us feed thousands of refugee families in Gaza who are suffering under the burdens of exile, poverty and blockade,” remarked UNRWA chief Karen Abu Zayd. Ford expects the agency’s USD68 million appeal for food operations to be realized despite escalating costs of goods and food.
