UN Appeals for USD604 Million Afghan Aid

    Some USD604 million is required to deliver food assistance, eradicate mines and bolster social services in Afghanistan, the United Nations said. A report by

    cited U.N. humanitarian head, John Holmes, as saying that the agency's work cannot regularly reach out to 40 percent of the landlocked Asian nation. The U.N. is looking at feeding 8.7 million Afghans in 2009 and delivering aid to 10 million people, Holmes said.
