UN Finance Scheme Targets Unemployed African Youth

The United Nations is helping increase access of unemployed sub-Saharan African youth to financial services.

YouthStart is a competition-based program meant to identify and support 12 financial institutions to pilot and launch financial services catering to the youth in the region.

The MasterCard Foundation has contributed USD12 million to the initiative. The U.N. Capital Development Fund, the global agency’s capital investment agency for the world’s 49 least developed countries, is also sponsoring the scheme.
