UN laments lack of attention to Congo crisis

The Democratic Republic of Congo is home to the world’s worst humanitarian catastrophe but the international donor community is not giving it enough attention, according to the United Nations. Ross Mountain, U.N. Humanitarian Coordinator in Congo, said “while international attention is currently focused on other crises, the DRC remains the world’s deadliest humanitarian catastrophe.” Three months ago, the U.N. appealed for $682 million to extend life-saving assistance to millions of people in the country. But so far, it has only received 13 percent of the needed amount. (Source: Congo remains world’s deadliest catastrophe - UN/Reuters)
