UN launches appeal for displaced Sri Lankans

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees hopes to receive USD18.6 million in aid to finance its operations benefiting nearly half a million internally displaced people in Sri Lanka. The funding aims to improve camp management and provide protection, shelter, and non-food relief items to those affected by the ongoing civil conflict. The agency has been working with the Sri Lankan government in helping the displaced since 1989. (Press Release: UNHCR seeks USD18.6 million to respond to Sri Lanka displacement in 2008/U.N.
