UN, NGO and General News Round-Up

Water and sanitation experts from the Group of Eight countries gathered Dec. 16 in Hokkaido to discuss ways to ensure safe drinking water in African and other developing countries. During the two-day G8 Experts Group Meeting on Water and Sanitation in Obihiro, chair country Japan hopes to lead the discussion as the world's largest donor in the field and compile a concrete plan by the next G8 summit in Italy next year. Experts from the UN, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, the African Development Bank and other organizations took part in addition to members from the G-8 nations and the EU. Experts from the international organizations have proposed formulating concrete support plans to the G-8 countries during the meeting.
