UN official holds high hopes for new developent forum

United Nations Economic and Social Council president Leo Merores believes the new Development Cooperation Forum can help improve the current “architecture of international cooperation” in assisting nations in meeting the Millennium Development Goals. The gathering in New York in early July will see discussions on development aid and strengthening the so-called South-South cooperation, according to Merores. In 2005, member states of the U.N. agreed to set up a biennial forum that would explore the current trends in international development cooperation and foster harmony in the way countries and organizations carry out their development efforts.
