UN: Pakistan needs more quake aid

The United Nations urged donors to provide more aid to Pakistan, where 73,000 people died and 3.2 million were displaced due to a powerful earthquake in October 2005. “Our health sector isn’t among the best funded. If we get a very bad winter, it would be a very severe test for the health sector to face. We have to be ready,” U.N. Resident Coordinator Jan Vandemoortele told reporters in Islamabad. So far, donors have provided $14 million of the $40 million sought by the U.N. for its Early Recovery Plan, a one-year initiative for Pakistan’s earthquake victims announced in May.
