The United Nations Human Settlement Program launched a new USD2 million fund for youth-led development projects during the Fourth Session of the World Urban Forum in Nanjing, China. The fund seeks to encourage the youth to deal with issues on sustainable urbanization, youth unemployment, entrepreneurship barriers and lack of training and education. “Through this new fund, we are recognizing the urgent need to bolster youth-led initiatives, and are at the forefront of a growing movement to place youth at the centre of sustainable development strategies,” said U.N. Undersecretary-General and Executive Director of UN-HABITAT Anna Tibaijuka. (“Fund unveiled to support UN youth-led projects for development” - United Nations, Nov. 5, 2008)
