UN Seeks USD462 Million for West Bank, Gaza

Some USD462 million is needed to help United Nations agencies provide emergency food and cash assistance to Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and West Bank next year. “We would prefer doing development work, but there is a humanitarian imperative,” U.N. Humanitarian Coordinator Maxwell Gaylard said during the launch of the aid appeal. “We have to focus our work on the delivery of food and cash assistance.” Of the sum, USD274 million is earmarked for the U.N. Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East, which aids Palestinians residing in refugee camps across the West Bank and Gaza.
