UN, World Bank release $11.6B for South Sudan public works project

The United Nations, the World Bank, and the government of southern Sudan have joined hands in implementing a public works program, aimed at providing basic services to ten southern Sudan states. At least $11.6 billion has been released for the Public Works Programme Component of the Rapid Impact Emergency Project, which plans to improve the quality of basic services to the area?s urban populations, as well as to bolster the capacity of local organizations and communities in southern Sudan. The program also seeks to create temporary employment opportunities for involved communities for a year after the project?s implementation.
