UNDP Backs Private Sector Growth in Angola

Entrepreneurship and sustainable business are two of the focal sub-sectors for the U.N. Development Program's poverty reduction assistance in Angola.

Two new projects for these areas are about to begin implementation this year, a UNDP official told Devex. Consultancy services are expected to be required. The agency is also funding efforts for an employment observatory and strengthening national capacity for the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals.

Ongoing projects include the Angola enterprise program and the Global Fund's HIV/AIDS initiative.

Poverty reduction takes the biggest slice of funding for UNDP's 2009-2013 country program with an estimated budget of US$49.6 million. The other program areas are democratic governance and environment.
