UNDP inaugurates clean power project in Indian town

The United Nations Development Program unveiled a new biomass gasifier that will supply clean power to poor households in the remote Indian town of Boregunte. “This project looks at how remote communities can have better access to electricity in an environment friendly, carbon neutral way,” remarked UNDP administrator Kemal Dervis at the commissioning ceremony. “The project not only improves their lives but also helps reduce the greenhouse gas emissions. The fact that they manage the project on their own gives them the opportunity to have additional sources of income,” the U.N. official continued.
