US offers to repair Lebanese bridge

The U.S. committed funds to repair the Mdairej bridge in Lebanon, where a section was damaged during the July 21 attack by Israel . The 230-foot-high bridge, the highest in the Middle East, links Beirut and Damascus. U.S. State Department Director of Foreign Assistance Randall L. Tobias, who was visiting the country, said the announcement indicates that Washington’s promises to Lebanon “amount to more than just words.” Funding for the project will come from the $230 million pledge of the U.S. towards Lebanon’s reconstruction.
