US presents grant to Mauritania

The U.S. Agency for International Development has agreed to give Mauritania a USD 2.9-million grant aimed at supporting peace and development programs in the region. The money will also support initiatives that support the decentralization of government, community development, community action, vocational training, and other related income-generating activities that will benefit the Mauritanian youth. The U.S. and Mauritania have improved their diplomatic relations since the West Africa state committed itself to democracy after a 19-month political transition.
