US To Fund Pakistani Dam Project, Officials Say

The United States has agreed to support the construction of the Diamer Bhasha Dam in Pakistan, officials familiar with the project have said, according to the International News.

The Pakistani government is now preparing formal requests for funding from the Asian Development Bank and several Middle Eastern donor countries, the Karachi-based newspaper adds, citing an official of the the Pakistani finance ministry who requested anonymity.

The Diamer Bhasha Dam is expected to provide water for agriculture and boost the country’s annual electricity supply.
