USAID to Launch New Projects in Mozambique

An official at the U.S. Agency for International Development tells the Devex Early Intelligence team that it plans to implement new initiatives in health and economic growth for fiscal 2009. Possible opportunities for competitive procurement are one or two projects in agriculture, business and trade; and about 10 projects in health care.

Mozambique has one of the highest HIV prevalence rates in the world, with about 1.5 million people living with the disease, as reported by Devex news. To address this, the U.S. will continue to allocate the biggest chunk of its funding to HIV/AIDS programs.

USAID will also support improvements in municipal governance and disaster preparedness, Devex Early Intelligence learned. The total budget request for the upcoming fiscal year amounts to US$290 million.
