Vietnam taps Japanese aid for rail project

Aid from Japan will partially finance a $33 billion project to construct a high-speed railway in Vietnam. Japanese official development assistance will make up 70 percent of the required funding while Vietnam Railways intends to seek loans to cover the rest. The track would support train speeds between 300 kilometers and 350 kilometers per hour, thus cutting travel time from Hanoi in the north to southern Ho Chi Minh City by two-thirds.
