WFP continues Somali relief operations

The World Food Program resumed its airdrop operations after a two-week interruption due to a land, air and sea ban ordered by the Somali government. On December 25, the government allowed humanitarian flights to enable the United Nations to feed half a million flood victims. “WFP is also investigating the viability of resuming food delivery by boat. It is doubtful that airdrops from the Kenyan port of Mombasa will resume in Somalia given the improved road access and the relative expense of airdrops,” the agency said in a statement.
