Henrietta Holsman Fore is the new executive director of the United Nations Children’s Fund. She succeeds Anthony Lake, who headed the fund for the past decade.

Prior to taking on the post on Jan. 1, Fore served as chairman and CEO of Holsman International, a manufacturing and investment company based in Washington, D.C. Prior to that, Fore served in different senior positions within the U.S. government, including as USAID administrator and as undersecretary of state for management within the State Department. Earlier in her career she also served on the boards of the Overseas Private Investment Corporation and the Millennium Challenge Corporation.

“I am honored to be joining such a remarkable organization, which I have known and admired for many years, and look forward to continuing UNICEF’s work to help save children’s lives, fight for their rights and help them realize their potential,” she said in a statement.
