With a Complete Roster, Independent Panel to Finish Global Fund Review in September

The panel tasked to conduct an independent review of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria now has five members and reached an agreement with the organization on the timeline and scope of the review.

Co-chairs Festus Mogae and Michale Leavitt, who were named in March, will be joined by the following members:

- Zeinab Bashir El Bakri, director of the Kuwaiti prime minister’s office and former vice president of sector operations at the African Development Bank.- Norbert Hauser, vice president of Germany’s Federal Court of Audit.- Gabriel Jaramillo, chairman of the Sovereign Bank Board and special adviser to the U.N. Secretary-General’s special envoy for malaria. - Barry O’Keefe, private consultant and former supreme court justice in New South Wales in Australia.- Claude Rubinowicz, chiief executive of France’s Agence du patrimoine immatériel de l’État, or APIE.

The panel and the Global Fund agreed that the independent review should include an assessment of risks for fraud and misuse in the Global Fund’s current portfolio and the financial safeguards used by the organization. The review is expected to be concluded by September 15, 2011.
