World Bank Backs Morocco's Solid Waste Reform

The World Bank is supporting Morocco’s municipal solid waste management reform with a USD138.6 million loan.

The program will improve the quality of municipal solid waste collection services in urban areas. It will also help to ensure that urban waste is disposed in sanitary landfills and rehabilitate 300 open dumps.

“The program will also contribute to the upgrade of the existing Environmental Impact Assessment system and support municipalities in accessing the carbon market and contributing to the climate change mitigation agenda,” according to Jaafar Friaa, the bank’s lead urban specialist for the program.
