World Bank Bolsters Bangladesh Energy Sector

The World Bank will loan USD350 million to help provide reliable energy in Bangladesh. The funding will be used to build a 300-megawatt gas turbine power plant, a 60-km natural gas pipeline, and an 11-km electricity transmission line, all in Siddhirganj, a power generation site to the southeast of Dhaka. “This project is expected to make a major contribution to meeting peak demand for power, and bolstering the capacity and reliability of the gas and power transmission networks,” said World Bank Country Director for Bangladesh Xian Zhu.
