World Bank boosts cyclone recovery in Bangladesh

The World Bank is lending USD95 million to help Bangladesh recover from the devastation caused by Cyclone Sidr, which caused over 3,000 deaths in November. “Bangladesh is implementing a number of projects to recover the economy with the help of development partners and we are coordinating the whole process,” World Bank operations advisor Mohamed Alhousseyni Toure stated. The government is carrying out a social investment program for cyclone victims and another aid initiative to help disabled people and vulnerable children in urban slums following natural disasters.
