World Bank funds Tanzania's pesticide disposal project

The World Bank earmarked $6.9 million in grant towards Tanzania’s plans to dispose 1,200 tons of expired pesticides. “The government is fully aware that a definite and environmentally sound disposal solution is required for obsolete pesticides,” Gray Mgonja, the finance ministry’s permanent secretary, said. Under the program, the government will collect the pesticides from 350 stores nationwide and ship them abroad – most likely to a European country – where they will be destroyed.
