World Bank Helps Improve Major Azerbaijan Road

The World Bank will provide USD70 million in International Development Association credit and a USD171.6 million International Bank for Reconstruction and Development loan to help Azerbaijan improve the efficiency and safety of a major highway linking the city of Baku to the town of Shamakhi.

The funding will support the country’s Third Highway Project, which covers the upgrading of the Baku-Shamkhi road from two to four lanes. The project also aims to develop a road management framework that includes motorway maintenance practices and a modern road financing scheme.
