World Bank, Jamaica Sign Agreement for Coffee Industry Risk Assessment

The World Bank and Jamaica's agriculture ministry have

to assess a weather risk insurance scheme for the country's coffee industry. The Washington-based lender will finance the study with a grant from the All ACP Agricultural Commodities Program of the European Union. This study aims to test the feasibility of issuing agricultural insurance, which Jamaica's Agriculture Minister Christopher Tufton said is key to the sector's sustainability. Jamaica is within the hurricane belt of the Caribbean, making it susceptible to extreme weather conditions.
