World Bank Official: Rich Nations Must Deliver Aid Commitments

World Bank Chief Economist Justin Lin appealed to rich nations to make good their aid promises to help developing countries cope with the global financial meltdown. “Over the past year, many developing countries have already had to cope with high food and fuel prices, and are now faced with a third problem of unprecedented proportions,” Lin said in a speech before the United Nations International Conference on Financing for Development in Doha. “While the channels of transmission may differ, virtually no developing country – whether an emerging market or a poor country in Africa – has escaped the impact of the widening financial crisis.” (“World Bank presses aid to developing world to ease crisis” - Agence France-Presse, Nov. 29, 2008)
