World Bank provides USD300 million for Bengal project

West Bengal will receive financial aid from the World Bank worth USD300 million for a host of development projects in the region. Under the West Bengal Accelerated Development of Minor Irrigation Project, 80 percent of the bank’s funding will be siphoned into irrigation and drainage purposes, with the rest of the money going to the agriculture, forestry, and fishing sectors. “Future agricultural growth and increase in rural incomes will need to come from increased land and labor productivity brought on by agricultural intensification and diversification,” a statement from the bank said.
