World Bank to help Brazil boost employment

The World Bank has given the thumbs-up to a USD18.9 million loan for Brazil to help the municipality of Pelotas provide better job opportunities for its residents. The loan is the first installment in a USD66-million program geared towards helping various Brazilian municipalities, including Rio Grande, Santa Maria, and Uruguaiana. “All five municipalities contain important hub-cities and are economic drivers of the southern half of the state. The programmatic approach is enabling the municipalities to share approaches on innovative methods for promoting local economic development,” said John Briscoe, World Bank director for Brazil.
