The Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation has submitted its second MDG report to the Cabinet. The report contains major progress and challenges in achieving the goals at the national level. It stressed the intensification of efforts to catch up on social gender and environmental sustainability.
Yemen held an unusual cabinet meeting to approve the second national report on the progress of MDG. There’s a great possibility that Yemen can meet its target in providing basic education for all by 2015 because it has reached 70 percent of the target at the moment. The country is also showing great improvements for specific health indicators specifically the reduction of child mortality.
USAID held a meeting with the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation to roll out a new stabilization strategy for Yemen. This is the first planned talk between the U.S. and Yemen to discuss the coordinated aid provided by an agreement worth USD121 million signed last September 2009 to fund projects in basic services, economic opportunities and strengthened governance.
Yemen and Jordan are collaborating to establish free industry zones. This is the main agenda of talks between Deputy Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Hisham Sharaf and Jordanian Ambassador to Yemen Ahmed Jaradat in the 13th session of the Yemeni-Jordanian Joint Committee.
The European Union and Yemen are forging a development partnership, discussed May 12 by Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Abdul Karim al-Arhabi and European Union Ambassador in Sana’a Michele Cervone D’urso. They talked about the preparations for the upcoming meeting of the Yemeni-European Committee, to be held in Sana’a.
