The Yemeni government has allegedly diverted U.S. military aid to fund its offensive against Huhti rebels in the northern part of the country, Human Rights Watch said, citing information from leaked U.S. diplomatic cables. The documents revealed that Yemen used military aid from the U.S. for its military campaign in the north as well as ignored request from U.S. diplomats to halt such a practice, Arab America News reports. Human Rights Watch is urging the U.S. government to investigate this apparent diversion of counterterrorism military aid and to suspend its support to the Middle Eastern country until the diversion is stopped.
